IIT-ISM Dhanbad to host two-day mining fest from Oct 25

Dhanbad: The department of Mining Engineering at the IIT-ISM Dhanbad, in collaboration with the Society of Mining Engineers (SME) IIT (ISM) Student Chapter, is set to host its annual techno-mining fest, KHANAN’25, on October 25 and 26.The two-day national event will bring together students from mining and allied disciplines across the country to engage in a series of competitions, workshops, and interactive sessions aimed at fostering innovation, problem-solving, and industry readiness.Devi Prasad Mishra, faculty advisor and the convener of KHANAN’25, said, “Mining Engineering is a dynamic and ever-evolving field that plays a crucial role in global energy security.

Our department here is ranked 20th globally in QS World University Rankings for Mineral and Mining Engineering, continues to lead in education and research. KHANAN exemplifies our students’ spirit of innovation, technical excellence, and leadership.

”The fest will feature a diverse line-up of events including Mining Olympiad, Nirvana, Mine Designothon, Placement Fever, The Next Big Thing, Panel Discussion, War-o-Words, General Quizzine, Kalakriti, Gamicon, and Khanan Mafia.

These will test participants’ technical knowledge, communication, and analytical skills through real-world scenarios and challenges.In addition to competitions, KHANAN’25 will host specialized workshops on cutting-edge topics such as mining robotics and automation, mineral market and global trade, mine planning and design, and mining equipment and technology. Experts from Coal India Limited, leading mining companies, and reputed academic institutions will share insights during a panel discussion on emerging issues in the mining sector.

The event will also include Kalakriti, a CSR-driven art competition aimed at spreading social awareness through creativity, and Gamicon, an informal online gaming event promoting teamwork and stress management.
