The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a multi-hazard warning for September 6, 2025, warning residents of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds across multiple regions.
At the center of the forecast is a well-marked low pressure area over the central parts of south Rajasthan, which is likely to concentrate into a depression over south Rajasthan and adjoining north Gujarat by the morning of September 7. “The well marked low pressure area over Southeast Rajasthan and neighbourhood moved west-northwestwards and lay over the central parts of south Rajasthan at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 6th September, 2025…It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over South Rajasthan and adjoining North Gujarat during next 24 hours.”

In west and northwest India, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over west Rajasthan on September 9; Uttarakhand from September 6-8 and 12; Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on September 6; Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on September 6 and 9; east Uttar Pradesh on September 11-12; east Rajasthan and Gujarat state on September 8, with very heavy rainfall over Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra on September 6-7; west Rajasthan on September 8; and east Rajasthan on September 7.
Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at most places in the region over the next seven days.IMD’s report also states that in east and central India, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated over east Madhya Pradesh on September 10-11; Odisha on September 6, 7, 9, and 10; sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the next seven days; Bihar from September 8-10; Andaman and Nicobar Islands on September 6, 10, and 11; Chhattisgarh from September 10-12, with very heavy rainfall over west Madhya Pradesh today.

For northeast India, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Assam and Meghalaya from September 6-8 and on 11-12; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from September 6-8; and Arunachal Pradesh on September 6-7. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely at many places over the next seven days.In south peninsular India, isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu from September 6-10; Kerala and Mahe on September 9-10; Lakshadweep and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from September 10-12. Strong surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema during the next five days. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at a few places in the region over the next five days.
