IMD issues heavy to very heavy rainfall warning across multiple states; all you need to know

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for intense rainfall across North, East, Northeast, Central, and South India from August 21 to 24. According to reports, some regions may face potentially severe conditions in the coming days.

The relentless downpours have already triggered severe conditions in areas like Junagadh, Gujarat. The IMD has forecast a prolonged spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Northeast India, particularly in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, over the next seven days. Rivers such as the Brahmaputra, Kopili, and Barak have previously seen floods during similar weather events. Authorities are on high alert to mitigate potential impacts.

The IMD has issued a broad rainfall warning covering multiple regions. In Central India, Madhya Pradesh is expected to see light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy showers possible. Similarly, Konkan, Goa, and parts of Gujarat are likely to experience sporadic heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. In East and Northeast India, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive light to moderate rain, with heavy downpours in isolated areas.

Heavy rainfall is also predicted for parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Western Rajasthan. Some areas are potentially facing intense showers. In the Himalayan region, Uttarakhand, Eastern Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh are under a heavy rain alert from August 22 to 24.The widespread rainfall is part of an active monsoon season that has already caused significant disruption across India. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant, and avoid travel during heavy downpours.
