HYDERABAD
Working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has observed that the ruling Congress party appears to have realised that its “betrayal of people” on the six guarantees and other promises made before the 2023 Assembly elections is going to cost it dearly in the Jubilee Hills byelection and that’s why it’s “stooping low to save some respect”.
Reacting to the ruling party’s decision to induct former captain of the Indian cricket team Md. Azharuddin into the Cabinet to accommodate a minorities’ leader, 23 months after coming to power, he said on Thursday that it was nothing but a last resort to win over minorities, who form a major chunk of the electorate in the constituency.
The ruling Congress has no MLA, MLC or MP from the minorities (Muslim community) this time and no representation in the Cabinet too for the first time in its history. The State leadership of the party was under tremendous stress in the wake of the Jubilee Hills byelection and the entire State Cabinet and other leaders descending on the constituency was a clear indication, KTR observed.
