In Nashik city, plans afoot to improve stormwater network

Project Estimated To Cost Over 1,000 Crore

NASHIK: The municipal corporation is planning on improving stormwater network in the city at an estimated cost of over Rs1,000 crore. The civic body's decision comes after several parts of the city saw waterlogging induced by the heavy monsoon rain. Speaking to TOI, a top civic official said: "We are planning to improve the entire stormwater network of the city. The project is estimated to cost over Rs1,000 crore. We are planning to raise the funds through loans from World Bank and Asian Development Bank.""We need to improve our stormwater line network to prevent waterlogging and to see that rainwater is drained out," said the official."It is difficult right now to inform about the total length of the stormwater lines that will be constructed in the city.

But we will soon prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) through a private consultant," added another official.Last month's downpour pushed several areas of the city under water. Some roads were inundated resulting in traffic snarls. In 2023, the public works department of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) conducted a survey and found over 210 blackspots across six divisions of the city. Thereafter, NMC claimed to have taken measures to drain out rainwater at these blackspots of waterlogging. But the rains soaked the areas this time as well.Taking serious cognisance of the situation, NMC has now planned to improve the stormwater network in the entire city.
