A wedding in Maharashtra’s Nanded district turned into more than just a personal celebration of two people coming together. It instead became a rare act of social welfare, as the groom’s family extended accident insurance cover to the entire village.

The incident took place in Bahadurpura village during the wedding of Siddheshwar Pethkar and Manjusha.

Amid the celebrations, the Pethkar family took an unusual and inspiring step by insuring nearly 3,500 residents of Bahadurpura. The initiative ensures financial support for villagers in case of any unfortunate accident.

Reacting to the initiative, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora said the gesture of gifting accident insurance coverage to thousands of villagers as a wedding return gift was inspiring and reminded him of a similar effort he and his wife Pooja Shetty had undertaken at their own wedding.

"More power to such thoughtful young Indians for choosing compassion over excess," he said in a post on X.

The gesture also drew widespread praise on social media, with many users commending the family for stepping in to do what is often seen as the responsibility of the government rather than private citizens.

"Commendable! A citizen did what the government should have done. In reel era where every action is for engagement on SM, the groom said 'in our culture charity is not announced from rooftops'," one user posted on X.

Another person said, "imagine needing weddings to do what governments promised."
