Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has sounded a high wave alert along the coasts of north and south Goa, north and south Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala calling for suspension of nearshore recreation activities on Monday (May 26, 2025).
Wave heights are expected to surge up to 4.3 metres from the evening of May 26 till May 27 8.30 p.m. It was advised that the small vessels should not ply during this time.

The areas identified for wave surges and erosion include Chapora to Panaji, Santerem to Kolamb in Goa, Karantaka - Mulki to Mangalore, Baindur to Kapu, Majali to Bhatkal, also Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha. Ernakulum, Kollam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Kavaratti; Lakshadweep, Maharastra – Ratnagiti and Sindhudurg.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu too were put in the ‘red’ list of areas likely to be affected by the weather. Ocean currents alert was issued for the coast of Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Devbhumi Dwaraka and other regions of Gujarat
Flood warning especially during high tide
The institute — under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) — also warned of possibility of flooding in the low lying coastal areas, especially during high tide between May 24-28 due to sustained strong onshore winds, high nearshore waves/swells and heavy rainfall. The approximate timings of the higher high water level and lower high water level for specific locations and other information are available on its website, according to an official notification.
