Income tax officials carry out searches at pothys textiles locations in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Income tax sleuths carried out searches in about 25 places linked to Pothys Textiles in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai.Sources said that the searches were initiated based on credible information of large-scale tax evasion by the textile retail chain, which is also involved in the jewellery business and has a presence in Kerala as well.

More than 200 income tax officers, accompanied by CRPF personnel, reached the targeted premises around 7 am.In Chennai, Pothys Textiles Chairman Ramesh Moopanar's residence in Raja Annamalaipuram was also subjected to searches, as seven sleuths reached the spot in two vehicles around 7.30 am.

Pothys showroom in T Nagar is also being searched, while some other retail outlets were partially brought under their control for surveys.
