Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill
TimesofIndia.com in London: India captain Shubman Gill said levelling the Test series 2-2 against England meant a great deal to his team after they clinched a thrilling six-run win at The Oval on Monday. England began the final day of the five-match series needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand to pull off an extraordinary chase of 374. But India turned the tide with a gripping morning session full of tension and drama.

Mohammed Siraj was the star with the ball, taking three of the four wickets to fall and finishing with 5 for 104."We had the option of taking the new ball, but the way they were bowling, we thought they could do the job.
We had wicket-taking options. We wanted them to score 30 singles; we knew they were under pressure. We wanted to take the game deep. The way Brook and Root were going, not many teams in the world would have been given a chance," Gill told reporters after victory."Thinking about other players put less pressure on me because I was focused on everyone, not just myself. That helped. Gautam Gambhir told us not to think of ourselves as a young team, but as a gun team," he added.
Gill was named India’s ‘Player of the Series’ after scoring 754 runs, which included four centuries. His standout performances included scores of 147 in Leeds, 269 and 161 in Birmingham, and 103 in Manchester."Moments like these make the journey feel worth it. A lot of highs and lows. Every time you bat, you want to score a century, but that’s not how life works. I want to stay balanced. Each hundred I scored had a different significance. Each of them has a story and means a lot to me. Difficult to pick just one," he said."A lot of learnings in the series. There’ll be opinions, but they usually come after the match, when everyone has seen what’s happened," the Indian Test skipper added.
