India, China agree to resume direct flights, re-open border trade

India and China have agreed to resume direct flight connectivity between the Chinese mainland and India at the earliest, officials confirmed following the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi.

Both countries also agreed to finalise an updated Air Services Agreement and simplify visa procedures for tourists, business travellers, media personnel, and other visitors.

"Both sides agreed to resume direct flight connectivity between Chinese mainland and India at the earliest, and finalize an updated Air Services Agreement. They also agreed on the facilitation of visas to tourists, businesses, media and other visitors in both directions," the statement read.

The flights were suspended in the aftermath of the Doklam crisis and further delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
