India condoles Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri signed the condolence book at the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi following the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US and Israel-led military strikes. The move comes after criticism that India had not openly condemned the assassination of the Iranian leader. Mishri also met with the Iranian ambassador after signing the condolence book. The development follows an incident where an Iranian ship with Iranian sailors was reportedly torpedoed by the United States after returning from an exercise in Visakhapatnam conducted at India's invitation. India has faced criticism for not being vocal in supporting Iran, a country with longstanding ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while sharing a platform with the Finland president, emphasised that military actions would not provide permanent solutions and urged dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts.
