After India defeated West Indies comfortably by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Shubman Gill side not only whitewashed the two-match Test series 2-0 and improved their Points Percentage (PCT) in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle but also went past South Africa to become the third best team with the most Test wins at home.

The win in New Delhi was India’s 122nd Test victory on home soil as they overhauled South Africa’s 121 Test wins at home. India have played a total of 596 Tests since their Test debut in 1932. Out of those 596, India won 185 Tests while losing 186 Tests to carry a win/loss ratio of 0.994. Out of these 185 Test wins overall, 122 have come on home turf for India, showing their dominance on the familiar conditions.

India boast a terrific home record in Tests as their win/loss ratio jumps to 2.103, having just lost 58 Tests in India. The side has played 296 Tests at home, drawn 115 of them, while 1 match has ended in a Tie.

Australia, with 262 wins Down Under, sit on top of the list of teams with the most wins at home. England are second with 241 wins from 558 Tests at home. The top two remain unchanged in overall Test wins as well as Australia have won 422 Tests while England were the winning side in 403 Tests.

India’s 2-0 win over West Indies also snapped the otherwise poor previous record where India were thrashed 3-0 at home by a visiting New Zealand side, which whitewashed India in India for the first time since 2000. Before the 3-0 loss to New Zealand in 2024, India were whitewashed in a home Test series (more than one Test) only once, back in 2000 when Hansie Cronje’s South Africa beat India 2-0 in the two-match Test series.
