The Indian women’s hockey team lost 0-2 to Belgium, marking their sixth successive loss in the European leg of the FIH Pro League and edging closer to relegation on Sunday, June 22.

After a scoreless first half, Belgium scored twice in quick succession in the third quarter to clinch the reverse fixture, after a 5-1 thrashing of the struggling Indian side the previous day.

Striker Ambre Ballenghien opened the scoring in the 40th minute and Lien Hillewaert added the second goal at Sportcentrum Wilrijkse Plein.

Both India and Belgium showed attacking intent in the first half, challenging each other’s defence, with the visitors earning two PCs while Belgium threatened with more circle entries.

India couldn’t mount an effective response after Belgium established a 2-0 lead, despite their efforts to score.

As a result, India has dropped to the ninth and last spot on the table, with 10 points from their 14 games.
