Chikitha’s victory marked India’s first-ever gold medal in this category at the Youth World Championships. Throughout the knockout stages, the 20-year-old displayed outstanding form, as reported by Olympics.com.
In the semi-finals, she easily defeated Spain’s Paula Diaz Morillas 142-133. In a tightly contested final, she stayed composed and won the gold medal match against Park Yerin of the Republic of Korea with a score of 142-136.
In the quarter-finals, Chikitha faced a tough match but managed to overcome compatriot and 2023 senior Asian champion Parneet Kaur 146-143. In the U18 compound events, Indian archers performed strongly.
In an all-Indian women’s semi-final, Prithika Pradeep narrowly beat Surya Hamsini Madala 130-128, but then lost a close final to America’s O’Donohue Savannah 143-140, earning a silver medal. In the U18 men’s competition, Yogesh Joshi lost 136-132 to New Zealand’s Hector McNeilly in the semi-finals.
In the bronze medal match, Joshi fought hard but was defeated 143-139 by Chinese Taipei’s Yen Tzu Hsiang, finishing without a medal. India also secured a silver medal in the U18 mixed compound team event, where Prithika and Mohit Dagar were narrowly beaten 150-149 by the American duo of O’Donohue Savannah and Caleb Quiocho in the final.
The Indians led 37-34 after the first set, but the Americans stepped up their game and won by a single point. India is third on the medals table with a total of six medals (three gold, two silver, and one bronze). The US leads the table with four gold, one silver, and five bronze medals, followed by South Korea with three gold, four silver, and one bronze.
