In an unprecedented move, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be preparing to participate in a landmark high-level conference that will bring together the top leadership of India’s internal security apparatus. The conference will be chaired by the Prime Minister himself — a first of its kind, signalling a strong push towards unified strategic thinking across the forces.

Senior officials familiar with the matter confirmed that the gathering is designed to give CAPF leadership a common platform to deliberate on their evolving mandate in the face of rapidly shifting internal security threats. From insurgency and left-wing extremism to the growing menace of cyber-enabled risks, the changing threat landscape has made coordinated responses more critical than ever.

It is expected that cadre officers as well as IPS officers will attend the conference, though clarity is expected in the coming days.

Beyond inter-CAPF collaboration, the conference is also expected to deepen synergy with central intelligence agencies and state police forces. Key agenda items are likely to include enhanced intelligence sharing, streamlined coordination mechanisms, and frameworks for joint operational planning.

Ahead of the event, sources said that the Intelligence Bureau has reached out to relevant stakeholders, seeking substantive inputs on priority issues and topics to be taken up during the deliberations. CAPF officials noted that these suggestions will be instrumental in ensuring that the conference produces concrete, outcome-oriented results rather than remaining a symbolic exercise.

The initiative is a significant step towards institutionalising high-level collaboration within India’s internal security framework. A successful outcome could set the stage for regular, structured engagement among CAPFs, fostering a more cohesive and anticipatory approach to national security.

The date and venue are yet to be officially announced.

Currently, top CAPF officials attend the DGP/IG conference, but this proposed conference will be exclusively for CAPFs.
