Old Trafford will be decked up to finish an exciting finish as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has fittingly welcomed a fourth consecutive match where the contest has entered the final day. Despite losing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the opening over, India fought back with a steely Rahul and the calm of Gill propelling them up to 174 for two at stumps.

That it came on the back of England’s massive 311-run first-innings lead and the two new-ball dismissals in the opening over meant that the Rahul-Gill association etched the first instance in Test history where the third-wicket partnership crossed 150 runs after starting at 0/2. With a full day left in play, India will be wary of how their Lord’s chase panned out on the final day, and with Rishabh Pant set to walk in with a fracture toe, the odds are still stacked up against the visitors.

He was forced to rush back out to the middle, India reeling at 0/2, with Chris Woakes on a hat-trick after dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan.

Despite what he'd called the "worst couple of days" of his captaincy, Gill found an invaluable ally in KL Rahul, who had been the picture of composure throughout the tour. Together, they forged an unbroken 174-run partnership, taking India to 174/2 at stumps. Their epic stand not only resurrected a seemingly lost Test match but also breathed new life into a series that appeared all but over. (READ MORE)
