India Wins 13 Medals At Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships Finale

Mehak Sharma won silver and Lovepreet Singh took bronze for India at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, with India finishing with 13 senior medals.

India’s Mehak Sharma secured a silver medal in the women’s +86kg category, while Lovepreet Singh claimed bronze in the men’s +110kg category on the final day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex on Saturday.

Mehak achieved a total lift of 253kg (110kg in snatch + 143kg in clean and jerk) to finish second. Samoa’s Iuniarra Sipaia took gold with a total lift of 261kg (111kg snatch + 150kg clean and jerk), and Nigeria’s Commonwealth Games medallist Mary Taiwo Osijo earned bronze with a total lift of 231kg (103kg snatch + 128kg clean and jerk).

Mehak began her snatch attempts with 103kg, improving to 107kg on her second try, and succeeded in lifting 110kg on her third. In the clean and jerk, she started at 130kg, increased to 137kg on her second attempt, and achieved her best lift of 143kg on the third attempt, culminating in a total of 253kg.

In the men’s +110kg category, India’s Lovepreet Singh won bronze with a total lift of 380kg (175kg in snatch + 205kg in clean and jerk), coming behind New Zealand’s David Liti (397kg; 177kg snatch + 220kg clean and jerk). Samoa’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sanele Mao claimed gold with a total lift of 401kg (181kg snatch + 220kg clean and jerk).

In the youth men’s +94kg category, India’s Tushar Chaudhary finished first in a two-man competition, lifting a total of 285kg (125kg snatch + 160kg clean and jerk), ahead of Sri Lanka’s Nejitha Nethsahan who lifted 197kg (97kg snatch + 100kg clean and jerk).

India concluded the championships with a total of 13 medals in the senior category, consisting of three gold, seven silver, and three bronze.

On the first day of the tournament, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu secured gold in the women’s 48kg category and qualified for next year’s Commonwealth Games. Rishikanta Singh (60kg), N. Ajith (71kg), and V. Ajaya Babu (79kg) also booked their spots for the 2026 Glasgow CWG.

Senior Men 110kg: Taniela Tuisuva Rainibogi of Fiji lifted 365kg (165kg snatch + 200kg clean and jerk), Jack Opeloge of Samoa lifted 357kg (157kg snatch + 200kg clean and jerk), Jackson Roberts-Young lifted 356kg (150kg snatch + 206kg clean and jerk).

Junior Men +110kg: Isyss Schuster of New Zealand lifted 338kg (155kg snatch + 183kg clean and jerk), Muhammed Farris Kamarul of Malaysia lifted 315kg (135kg snatch + 180kg clean and jerk).

Junior Women +86kg: Siti Aqilah Farhana of Malaysia lifted 227kg (107kg snatch + 120kg clean and jerk), Angel Billen of Canada lifted 225kg (98kg snatch + 127kg clean and jerk), Anika Falasia of New Zealand lifted 217kg (100kg snatch + 117kg clean and jerk).

Youth Women +77kg: Anika Falasia of New Zealand lifted 217kg (100kg snatch + 117kg clean and jerk), Sewwandi Sass of Sri Lanka lifted 135kg (60kg snatch + 75kg clean and jerk).
