Kendrapada: The Indian Coast Guard commissioned ICGS Adamya, the first vessel of the eight-ship Adamya class fast patrol vessels (FPVs) at Paradip Port on Friday.‘Adamya’, meaning ‘indomitable’, is a projection of the Indian Coast Guard’s will and commitment to ensuring safe, secure, and clean seas towards the maritime interest of the Nation, said Satyajit Mohanty, joint secretary (defence policy, armed forces wing, CSD & planning), ministry of defence, during the meeting.The 51-metre FPV has been designed and built indigenously by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited and is a befitting example of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” with over 60 per cent indigenous content.The ship displaces around 320 tonnes and is propelled by two 3,000 KW diesel engines, achieving a maximum speed of 28 knots. She has an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles at economical speed. Adamya is the first ICG ship equipped with indigenously developed controllable pitch propellers (CPP) and gearboxes, offering superior manoeuvrability, operational flexibility, and enhanced performance at sea.Its weapons include a 30 mm CRN91 gun and two 12.7 mm stabilised remotely controlled (SRCG) machine guns, all supported by fire control systems. The vessel also features an integrated bridge system (IBS), integrated platform management system (IPMS), and automated power management system (APMS), augmenting operational efficiency and automation, said inspector general Yoginder Dhaka, TM, chief of staff headquarters eastern seaboard of coast guard in Visakhapatnam.

The ship will be based at Paradip, Odisha and deployed for surveillance of maritime zones, among other duties. It will be commanded by commandant (JG) Anurag Pandey.CM Mohan Charan Majhi hailed the commissioning of Adamya as a proud moment for Odisha and a boost to India’s maritime security. In a post on social media platform X, Majhi said the induction of Adamya reflects the state’s growing strategic importance and will significantly enhance coastal vigilance and safeguard the exclusive economic zone in the Bay of Bengal.“Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, our nation is steadily advancing towards the vision of a Sashakt Bharat, with Odisha playing a pivotal role in strengthening India’s maritime security architecture,” Majhi wrote.
