Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that despite inheriting a debt burden of ₹8.19 lakh crore from the previous rulers, the State government is committed to fulfilling every election promise with focus on welfare and development together.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Indiramma Housing Scheme in Mangampalli village of Peddamandadi mandal in Wanaparthy district on Saturday, the Minister criticised the previous regime for failing to deliver on the promise of double-bedroom housing, despite assurances. “Had they built 2 lakh houses per year, 10 lakh houses could have been completed in five years. Instead, commissions and projects like Kaleshwaram were prioritised over the poor,” he alleged.
However, in the first phase, the Congress government is building 3,500 Indiramma houses in each constituency with ₹22,500 crore sanctioned. “Every Monday, funds are directly deposited into beneficiaries’ accounts based on the stage of construction,” he added.
Excise, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Animal Husbandry and Sports Minister Vakati Srihari, Wanaparthy MLA Tudi Megha Reddy and District Collector Adarsh Surabhi were present.
Mr. Krishna Rao said the ‘Indiramma government’ was delivering welfare despite financial challenges. He reminded that the BRS government alone raised over ₹8 lakh crore in debt, and the Congress government was now forced to pay the loans taken at a high interest rate. He urged beneficiaries to begin house construction quickly.
Mr. Srihari highlighted that 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses were sanctioned, with ₹5 lakh allocated for each unit. He made it clear that allocation was done transparently, free of bias, unlike in the past.
Wanaparthy MLA Tudi Megha Reddy noted that, as promised during elections, Wanaparthy constituency had been taken under the special care of Minister Ponguleti, with funds of ₹1,280 crore sanctioned so far for development works. He also sought additional houses for tribal families in the district.
Collector Adarsh Surabhi revealed that out of 6,127 sanctioned houses in Wanaparthy district, 3,565 had been marked out, with 180 at roof level, 150 at slab stage and 1,220 at basement level. He said construction was progressing steadily.
On this occasion, housewarming ceremonies were held for beneficiaries in Mangampalli. Minister Ponguleti distributed clothes on behalf of the government while MLA Megha Reddy personally gifted clothes to families.
