A Batik Air Boeing 737-800 aircraft narrowly avoided disaster after being hit by a powerful crosswind during landing at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. The dramatic incident took place on 27 June and was captured on video, which has since gone viral across social media.

Flight PK-LDJ, arriving amid heavy rain, was buffeted by severe turbulence as it descended toward the runway. Just moments before touching down, a sudden gust of wind pushed the aircraft off course, tipping it sharply to the right.

Despite the extreme weather conditions, the pilot regained control just in time, successfully levelled the aircraft, guided it back onto the runway, and brought it to a safe stop. All 157 passengers and six crew members on board escaped unharmed.

A full technical inspection was carried out immediately after landing. According to Batik Air and airport maintenance teams, no structural damage was found to the aircraft. It was later cleared for repositioning and further evaluation.

In a statement, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation praised the pilots’ quick thinking and professionalism, Aviation Today reported.

“The flight crew executed the appropriate procedures under crosswind conditions," said Novie Riyanto, Director General of Civil Aviation. “We commend the pilots for maintaining control and ensuring passenger safety. However, all contributing factors—including weather patterns, aircraft handling, and operational decisions will be thoroughly examined."

The scare comes just two weeks after a tragic crash involving another Boeing aircraft. On 12 June, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 of the 242 people on board. According to officials, at least 19 people on the ground were also killed.
