Indore to host World Snooker Championship in November

Indore: One of the biggest events on the global snooker calendar is headed to Indore. The city will host the prestigious World Snooker Championship from November 12 to 23 at the Yeshwant Club, bringing some of the finest cueists from across the world to Madhya Pradesh.The event has been awarded to Madhya Pradesh at a time when the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) is marking its centenary year since being founded.With top-ranked players from several countries expected to participate, the championship will be among the biggest international sporting events hosted by Indore this year.“Hosting the World Snooker Championship is a matter of great pride for Madhya Pradesh.

The tournament will bring some of the world’s finest players to Indore and provide local cueists an opportunity to witness top-level competition from close quarters. We are committed to delivering an event that matches international standards,” said Bholu Mehta, chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Billiards and Snooker Association.The announcement was made at Indore’s Nehru Stadium where city’s Ketan Chawla was felicitated for his contribution to India’s silver medal-winning campaign at the IBSF World Team Snooker Championship held in Guangdong, China, earlier this month. Chawla shared the honours with celebrated Indian cueists Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta.

Officials of the Madhya Pradesh Billiards and Snooker Association said the state has steadily strengthened its reputation as a venue for national and international cue sports competitions. Alongside hosting major events, Madhya Pradesh has also produced a growing pool of talented players, including Ketan Chawla, Amee Kamani, Sanvi Shah, Ishika Shah, Kanishka Jurani, Hritik Jain and Owais Khan, who have represented the state and country with distinction.With preparations set to begin in the coming months, the championship is expected to draw players, officials and enthusiasts from around the world, giving Indore another opportunity to showcase its credentials as a major sporting destination.
