Former ambassador Rajiv Dogra on Sunday commented on Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s statement on the Indus Water Treaty and said his usage of the term “family property" for the Indus River is correct.
“He has used the right term ‘family property’, because the Indus River Waters are a family property of India," Dogra said.
“If you look at the river rights of any big nation, be it China or America, they consider their rivers their family properties," he added.
Also commenting on Munir’s rant against India, the former ambassador said, “He (Asim Munir) should consult an intelligent person before saying anything. And if he continues his anti-India rant, India should try and stop whatever water is being released to Pakistan."

Recently, addressing a black-tie event hosted for him in Florida’s Tampa, Asim Munir threatened to destroy the Indian dams (to be built) with missiles on the river, saying that Islamabad has plenty of missiles.
“We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, phir 10 missile sey faarigh kar dengey (we will destroy it with 10 missiles)," Munir had said.
“The Indus River is not the Indians’ family property. Humein missailon ki kami nahin hai, (we have no shortage of missiles)," Munir reportedly said.
Asim Munir, who is visiting Washington for the second time since the four-day conflict with India, met top US political and military leaders there.
In June, Munir travelled to the US on a rare five-day trip during which he attended a private luncheon with President Donald Trump, an unprecedented gesture typically reserved for visiting heads of state or government.
That meeting culminated in Trump’s announcement of enhanced US-Pakistan cooperation in various fields, including an oil deal.
