Infant dies near Ambur after house wall collapses

An infant was killed after a wall of the house collapsed on her at Kumaramangalam village near Ambur town in Tirupattur due to rain.

The deceased has been identified as P. Aravarshini. She is the second child for the couple S. Poovarasan and P. Sundari. The couple was working in a private shoe company in the area. As they went for work, the child was under the care of Valli, the grandmother.

Initial inquiry revealed that the dilapidated wall became weak after heavy rain lashed in the region for the past few days. The girl was playing near the wall when it collapsed around noon.

Immediately, neighbours alerted Omerabad police, who rushed to the spot. Police admitted the child at Government Taluk Hospital in Ambur town before she was referred to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore where she later died. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
