Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who met Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Srinagar on Thursday (November 13, 2025), said injustice and disempowerment lead to radicalisation that threatens peace.
A spokesman of the Mirwaiz said the cleric said he was committed to “peace and dialogue as the most humane and effective means of addressing issues and resolving differences”.
“Both leaders agreed that injustice and disempowerment lead to radicalisation that threatens peace. Both leaders agreed that sustained dialogue and mutual understanding are essential to promote peace and human dignity,” the spokesman said.
The Mirwaiz and Mr. Shankar discussed the importance of peace, compassion, and inter-faith harmony in today’s world, the spokesman said. The Mirwaiz also appreciated Mr. Shankar’s recent anti-drug outreach in the valley.
On Mr. Shankar’s upcoming visit to the central jail Srinagar, the Mirwaiz said, “A compassionate and humane approach must guide efforts for the release of political prisoners and youth”.
