For most of his adult life, Roger Federer lived out of a suitcase. Hotel rooms, practice courts, tournament sites – this was the rhythm for more than two decades. So when the greatest tennis player of his generation finally stepped away from the tour, the question of where he would settle felt like it deserved a proper answer.
The answer, it turns out, is a stunning lakeside estate in Wollerau, a quiet and wealthy community on the shores of Lake Zurich, and it is every bit as beautiful as you would imagine.Federer has reportedly invested heavily in land and construction in the area over the years. The result is a waterfront property now estimated to be worth around $50 million, sitting in one of Switzerland's most private and scenic corners.
Wollerau is the kind of place where business leaders and celebrities go when they want space, views, and the kind of peace that money can buy. For a man who spent the better part of his life performing in front of packed stadiums across the world, it makes complete sense.
How Roger Federer designed his dream home around his family
What is interesting about the estate is that it does not sound like a trophy property. From everything that has been reported, Federer and his wife Mirka designed it with real life in mind rather than Instagram moments.
Large glass windows pull in natural light and frame the lake views from inside the house. Wide terraces and balconies face the water, giving the family outdoor space to actually use rather than just look at.
The architecture is clean and minimal in the way that the best Swiss luxury homes tend to be. Nothing overdone, nothing unnecessary.Inside, the focus is firmly on comfort. Spacious living areas, multiple bedrooms, a private swimming pool, and enough room for a family of six to breathe.
Federer and Mirka have four children, and by all accounts the home was planned with them very much at the centre of it.There is one detail about the property that stands out more than any architectural feature. The estate reportedly includes a separate living area for Federer's parents, allowing them to stay close to the family while having their own space within the grounds. For someone who has spoken openly about the importance of family throughout his career, it feels like a very deliberate and personal choice. After everything he achieved on a tennis court, Federer now has the lake, the mountains and the family around him.
