Institute of Child Health, Kottayam, to celebrate golden jubilee with free diabetes care for children

The Institute of Child Health (ICH), under the Government Medical College, Kottayam, will celebrate its golden jubilee on November 14. Varghese P. Punnoose, Principal of Government Medical College, Kottayam, will inaugurate the jubilee.

To mark the occasion, the hospital will distribute continuous glucose monitors (CGM) free of cost to children with Type 1 diabetes. According to ICH Superintendent Jayaprakash K.P., plans are also under way to provide insulin and glucose strips to patients.

Established on October 31, 1975, the ICH offers outpatient services to around 1.5 lakh patients and treats 10,000 inpatients annually. The hospital,which caters to newborns, paediatric patients and adolescents, also runs specialised clinics in paediatric neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, genetics, trisomy 21, high-risk newborn care and paediatric pulmonology.

The institute is equipped with a 15-bed paediatric ICU, a five-bed newborn ICU and a five-bed surgical ICU.
