At the event a brief Q&A session was held with Marty Bennett, who gave his thoughts on the following questions provided to him:Q1. Could you walk us through the admission requirements for international applicants at the University of Akron?A1. For undergraduate applicants the process is very simple: mark sheets from the student’s secondary school 9th, 10th, and 11th year work and Standard X board results (if applying in the months before completing 12th standard boards) and either a English proficiency test score (TOEFL-71, IELTS-6.0, Pearson PTE-48, LanguageCert Academic-65, Duolingo English Test-95) or an MOI (Medium of Instruction) letter from the registrar at the student’s school stating that English is the language of instruction at the school. For post-graduate applicants, in addition to transcripts from their bachelor’s degree institution(s), an English proficiency test score (or MOI from university registrar), students submit an SOP (statement of purpose), and 2-3 letters of recommendation. We do not require an application fee from international students or require standardized academic tests (SAT/ACT for UG; GRE/GMAT for PG). We operate on rolling admissions making decisions throughout the year.Q2. What does the cost of tuition and fees look like for international students, and are there scholarships or financial aid opportunities specifically designed for them?A2. For undergraduate applicants we have merit scholarships that students are considered automatically for at the time of admissions between $1000-$5000 per year. Applicants who receive the top-level scholarship are also encouraged to apply to the Honors College which has up to an additional $2500 per year of scholarships that can be added to the automatic merit awards. Approximate total costs (tuition and fees, living expenses, health insurance, personal expenses, and books/supplies) per year beginning in the 2026-27 academic year: $40,000+.For post-graduate applicants aid is given on a departmental level with a limited number of graduate assistantships (covering tuition plus a stipend for work done in the department up to 20 hours per week) being the most common form of assistance. Approximate total costs (tuition and fees, living expenses, health insurance, personal expenses, and books/supplies) per year beginning in the 2026-27 academic year: $36,000+.Q3. Which programs or degrees at The University of Akron would you say hold the strongest international reputation?A3. Our polymer science and plastics engineering program is ranked #1 in the world (according to EduRank 2025). Beyond all our other STEM-certified engineering and computer science degrees (including cybersecurity and networking), our double-accredited (by AACSB) College of Business degree programs include an undergraduate sport analytics and four STEM master’s degrees including a management degree with data analytics and supply chain options. Q4. What kinds of support services are available to help international students adjust — for example, orientation, academic advising, or immigration assistance?A4. Our International Center provides full lifecycle support for international students from post-admit/I-20 request process through pre-arrival training, orientation, and ongoing immigration support for travel, work permission via CPT/OPT (curricular or optional practical training), health insurance, cultural and social programming throughout the academic year, all the way to graduation.Q5. Can you share what opportunities exist for international students in terms of internships, research, and career placement during or after their studies?A5. 89% of all UA students participate in some form of experiential learning prior to graduation (internships, clinicals, study abroad, co-op programs, etc.). For example, all engineering undergraduates are required to do 3 co-op rotations of full-time work during which they earn on average $45,000 for a year of full-time work. Additionally, 94% of graduates are employed in their academic field or have continued their education at the next degree level.InUni: Connecting Ambitious Students to U.S. OpportunitiesAt InUni Global, we believe that every student deserves access to life-changing opportunities in higher education.
