Investigation underway after charred body of woman found in garbage dump in West Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: West Singhbhum police are yet to ascertain the identity of the woman, whose charred body was found in a garbage dump in Chakradharpur on Monday. Awadesh Kumar, the in-charge of Chakradharpur police station, on Monday there was no lead in the case so far and postmortem report is awaited to move further with the probe.

“There is no lead so far. Investigation into the matter is ongoing,” Kumar told TOI on Monday.Locals sighted a plume of smoke emanating from a garbage dump behind Bharat Bhavan on Sunday and informed the police. A stench had also filled the air. By the time cops reached the spot, the body was charred beyond recognition. Kumar said it appeared that the woman was killed first before her body was put in a sack and set on fire in the dump. “The identity of the body has also not been ascertained so far. The postmortem report will help in determining the cause of death,” he said.
