Haryana IPS officer 'suicide' case
NEW DELHI: A liquor contractor in Rohtak filed a complaint a day before IPS officer committed suicide, alleging that a police officer tried to extort Rs 2.5 lakh per month in the name of then Rohtak IG Y. Puran Kuma According to the complaint, the contractor, who is involved in the liquor business and under police protection due to threats from criminal gangs, said he was contacted by a police officer identifying himself as Head Constable Sushil Kumar. The officer allegedly claimed to be a close aide of IG Puran Kumar and demanded monthly payments to allow the contractor to continue his business. The complaint, filed on 6 October 2025 at Urban Estate Police Station, states that the officer first called the contractor in June, summoning him to meet IG Puran Kumar, and later met him in his office on 9 July. During the meeting, the contractor alleges that Sushil demanded Rs 2.5 lakh as a monthly “mangthi,” warning that failure to pay would result in false liquor smuggling cases filed against him. “I explained the competitive situation in my business and the threats I face from criminals, but he pressurised me strongly and said that IG Sahib Y. Puran Kumar would give full support,” the contractor said in the complaint. The contractor has submitted voice recordings and CCTV footage to support his allegations.The contractor’s complaint also mentions threats from associates of the Himanshu Bhau gang, who have reportedly invested in liquor contracts, placing his life at constant risk. Urban Estate Police Station officials confirmed that the complaint was received and investigation is underway. Attempts to contact IG Puran Kumar and Head Constable Sushil Kumar for comment were unsuccessful.
