Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday said a proposed agreement between Tehran and Washington is closer than ever to being finalized, while US President Donald Trump appeared to signal optimism by resharing Araghchi’s message on social media amid intense diplomatic negotiations.
“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer," Araghchi wrote on X, urging media outlets to avoid speculation about the contents of the agreement until negotiations are completed.

“Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content. In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course," he added.
Remarks Come Amid Conflicting Claims
Araghchi’s statement comes amid a flurry of reports about a potential US-Iran agreement aimed at ending months of conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said a deal is close and even suggested that a signing could take place soon. However, Iranian officials have maintained that no final agreement has been concluded yet.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei recently said that while much of the negotiating text had been agreed upon, Tehran had not made a final decision and would not compromise on its key red lines.
Trump Rejects Reports on Deal Terms
The latest comments also come after Trump accused Iran of leaking inaccurate details of the negotiations.
In a Truth Social post, the US president claimed that terms published in Iranian media had “nothing to do" with what had been agreed in writing and accused Tehran of negotiating in bad faith.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance sought to counter reports that Iran would immediately receive billions of dollars in frozen assets, saying no funds would be released simply for signing an agreement.
“I’m seeing a lot of fake information about a potential deal to reopen the Strait and end Iran’s nuclear weapons program. First, the Iranians are not receiving any cash, and no funds are being released for simply signing a deal or attending a meeting," Vance wrote on X.
He added that any economic benefits for Iran would depend on Tehran fulfilling its obligations under the proposed agreement.
What Is Being Negotiated?
According to reports, the proposed memorandum would serve as a framework for a broader settlement between the two countries. Issues under discussion reportedly include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, frozen Iranian assets, a ceasefire extension and future negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme.
While optimism has grown in recent days, significant differences remain between the US and Iranian positions, particularly over sanctions, uranium enrichment and regional security arrangements.
For now, both sides continue to signal progress, but officials in Tehran insist that the final details are still being worked out.
