Is Nicki Minaj part of MAGA movement? Rapper's support for Donald Trump and Elon Musk sparks claims

Nicki Minaj has once again stirred row after publicly thanking Donald Trump for his remarks on religious persecution in Nigeria and later showing support for billionaire Elon Musk.

The rapper’s posts have sparked speculation about whether she is aligning herself with figures often associated with the MAGA movement. The controversy began when Trump posted on Truth Social, calling the situation for Christians in Nigeria an “existential threat.” He alleged that thousands were being killed by radical Islamists and urged Congress to investigate the matter, even suggesting possible US intervention.Minaj has more than 43 million followers. She shared Trump’s post on X with the caption: “No group should ever be persecuted for practising their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” while thanking the GOP leader for addressing the issue.

Her response quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and drawing divided reactions. Some praised her for speaking up about religious freedom, while others accused her of promoting Trump’s political agenda.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz even thanked Minaj for “using her platform on behalf of persecuted Christians” and invited her to the US Embassy in New York for further discussions. The rapper responded that she would be “honoured.

Trump’s comments were similar to what some Republican leaders and church groups have been saying, but Nigerian officials pushed back, saying the violence affects many communities, not just what they called a “Christian genocide.”Furthermore, Minaj recently replied to ex-DOGE lead Elon Musk’s motivational post on X with the words, “Speak Elon, we’re listening.” Musk’s video about positivity and resilience seemed to resonate with her, further fuelling online chatter that the rapper may be warming up to high-profile conservative figures.

This isn’t the first time people have questioned where Minaj stands politically. In 2012, she seemed to back Republican candidate Mitt Romney with the lyric, “I’m a Republican, voting for Mitt Romney,” but later explained it was satire and said she actually supported then-President and Democratic leader Barack Obama, reports the Newsweek.
