Stephen A. Smith hints Travis Kelce might retire this season to focus on life with ‘beautiful lady’ Taylor Swift
During his conversation with People, Smith laid out why he believes Kelce may soon step away. He began with an honest assessment of the tight end’s current level of play. “Those of us who know sports, watch sports and watch him all the time, we know he’s not what he used to be,” Smith said. He followed that by praising Kelce for the career he built, calling him a three time champion and “one of the best people you’ll ever meet.
”
Smith did not stop there. He talked about the aging curve every athlete faces, adding, “But Father Time is undefeated and eventually it creeps up on us all.” He highlighted the surgeries and pain Kelce has battled through and said many younger players now outrun him simply because they have not endured the same physical toll. But Smith’s analysis stretched far beyond football. He believes Kelce’s life off the field may influence the decision even more.
He pointed to Kelce’s engagement to Taylor Swift and said, “I will tell you that that’s what I think he’s going to do.” “Obviously he has a beautiful lady in his life, where there’s a lot of good things for him to go home to. And so, because of that, I think the combination of all of those things,” implying that retirement feels like a natural direction. Smith also said Kelce has endless potential outside the NFL. “He would instantly make it in television.
Instantly,” he added, noting Kelce’s roles in Grotesquerie and Happy Gilmore 2.Even with speculation growing, Smith stressed he is only observing, not reporting. Kelce has made no announcement and returned this season after shutting down retirement rumors last year. Smith said he knew Kelce would not walk away after a tough Super Bowl loss, adding, “I could not imagine him ending his career on that note.”For now, Kelce presses forward as the Chiefs chase another late season push, leaving everyone waiting to see what choice he makes when the year ends. Also Read: Philip Rivers’ 2020 quote on Tom Brady resurfaces and ages terribly as he inches toward unexpected NFL comeback
