Israel rushed an advanced laser to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), enabling it to defend itself from Iranian missiles and drones, the Financial Times reported.

According to the report, the deployment of the advanced laser reflected a major defence co-operation between Israel and the UAE.

Tel Aviv also dispatched an advanced surveillance system, called ‘Spectro’, to Abu Dhabi to make it capable of defending itself against incoming drones from as far as 20 kilometres away, especially the Shaheds.

The two countries did not have diplomatic ties until U.S. President Donald Trump mediated the 2020 Abraham Accords — a series of joint agreements that normalized diplomatic, economic, and security relations between Israel and several major nations.

A regional official told the outlet that the laser system would be a display of “the value of being Israel’s friend".

About ‘Iron Beam’ Laser System

The Iron Beam laser defence system, which Israel sent to the UAE, can vaporise short-range rockets and drones.

First used by Israel against projectiles from Hezbollah, the laser defence system is a ground-based, high-energy laser defence system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

Apart from the Iron Dome air defence system, “several dozen" Israeli military personnel have been sent to the UAE. “It’s not a small number of boots on the ground," the source told The Financial Times.

Iron Beam uses a powerful directed-energy laser to destroy its targets. Once a threat is identified, the system fires a concentrated laser beam that disables the targets roughly within 4-5 seconds.

Iran’s Peace Proposal To U.S.

Iran has offered a new peace proposal to the U.S. in an attempt to end stalled negotiations. Tehran passed the proposal to mediators in Pakistan on Thursday night.

However, the contents of the proposal remain unclear.

U.S. President Donald Trump said he wasn’t satisfied with the proposal put forward by Tehran, saying, “They want to make a deal, but I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens".
