A high-rise building in Gaza, reportedly used by the militant group Hamas, was struck by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in a targeted operation.
In a statement issued on X on Saturday, the IDF said the building was located in a densely populated area and was being used by Hamas operatives to gather intelligence and coordinate attacks against Israeli forces operating nearby.

“STRUCK: A high-rise building that was being used by the Hamas terrorist organization in the area of Gaza City," the statement read.
The Israeli military said Hamas had installed surveillance equipment and set up observation posts within the structure that enabled them to monitor the movements of Israeli troops in the vicinity.
“"Hamas terrorists installed intelligence gathering equipment and positioned observation posts in the building in order to monitor the location of IDF troops in the area. Hamas terrorists also planted numerous explosive devices near the building," the IDF stated.
The Israeli military also reported that multiple explosive devices had been planted by Hamas operatives near the building, posing a significant threat to IDF forces and potentially to civilians.
The IDF added that it took a number of steps to reduce the risk to civilians in the area.
However, the nature of these civilian-protection measures was not fully detailed, but the IDF has in the past employed tactics like direct communication to evacuate buildings prior to strikes.
As of now, the extent of damage and any casualties from the strike have not been independently confirmed. Humanitarian groups have previously expressed concern about the high density of Gaza’s urban areas and the challenges in distinguishing between civilian infrastructure and military targets.
This comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing military operations in the region. Israeli officials maintain that Hamas deliberately embeds its military assets within civilian structures, complicating efforts to minimize collateral damage during operations.
Hamas has not yet publicly responded to the IDF’s claims regarding the building’s use. The situation remains tense as efforts to broker a ceasefire have yet to yield results.
International observers have urged all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law and take all possible measures to protect civilians.
