It was an amazing experience: Bux Khurana on scuba diving in Hormuz

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Bux Khurana, an Indian freediving athlete who recently did scuba diving in the Strait of Hormuz amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions and military presence, shares his experience. 

He said he encountered local pirates selling smuggled fuel, highlighting the complex reality of the region. Meanwhile, local fishermen from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are experiencing a boom in their catches due to the flourishing ecosystem. The athlete noted that while the global economy faces disruptions due to the chokehold on this critical maritime route, the local marine environment and small-scale fishing communities are unexpectedly benefiting from the pause in commercial activities.
