Former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is gearing up for his lightweight bout against Charles Oliveira and is up to no good, as it seems from his recent statement. Ilia Topuria aims to continue his winning streak at UFC 317, Charles Oliveira eyes at reclaiming the championship belt
UFC 315 has been the decisive event for the further shakeup across divisions within the UFC. Even though it was almost confirmed that the former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria would get an opponent, however, the name was not confirmed, and the change in the power dynamics of the welterweight division gave a name for Topuria’s first lightweight bout, Charles Oliveira. Both Topuria and Oliveira are aiming for the vacant championship belt.
Despite the fact that Topuria’s initial call-outs after moving up to the division were directed at Islam Makhachev, the then lightweight champion, it is to be noted that Topuria is still matched up against one of the toughest contenders in the division. Oliveira previously held the championship belt after defeating Michael Chandler and then defending it against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje before losing it to Makhachev.
The fighter seems to be in no mood to let the opportunity slip out of his hands in reclaiming the title once again.Meanwhile, the UFC's undefeated fighter, La Leyenda, seems pretty confident about winning a second title. In the recent fight promo video, Topuria made some really bold statements that have left fans wanting more immediately.
“I feel so powerful at 155. I’m gonna touch his chin and it will explode.”The statement sent chills down across both the division and the fan community. One of the users wrote, “That's one way to end a fight!”
Another one wrote, “Idk why but I believe him”
“His punches should be considered as weapons of massive destruction”
