The Congress on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) said the dual control of Jammu and Kashmir has “immensely contributed to chaos leading to the disconnect and non-representation of people both at political as well as administrative level”.

“Disconnect and non-representation of people are apparently visible on the ground. The Centre is running away from the promises it made on the floor of Parliament to people of J&K. The Congress won’t remain silent, we will continue to fight vigorously for the Statehood and safeguarding rights of our people, who have suffered enormously on all fronts due to the policies of BJP,” J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra said.

The JKPCC has launched meetings of block presidents of three Lok Sabha segments of Kashmir region. “The party will also be holding district level conventions under the slogan Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq shortly to reiterate Congress party’s strong urge for restoration of complete statehood to J&K,” a Congress spokesman said.

The first phase of district-level conventions mission Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq was completed in the Jammu region.

Mr. Karra asked the district presidents and party workers “to gear up for the upcoming district level political conventions, which will send a strong signal to the BJP government at the Centre that its diversionary tactics from the real issues concerning J&K will not be accepted”.

“The deliberate delay in restoration of Statehood will no longer work, Centre has to take urgent measures to restore statehood to J&K which has been snatched by a stroke of pen,” Mr. Karra said.

He also asked BJP’s J&K unit “to clear its stand whether they are in favour of restoration of Statehood or not?”
