JAC representatives & kin of children killed in bomb attack meet Manipur CM

Imphal: Representatives of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for the Tronglaobi incident and family members of two children, who were killed in a bomb attack last week, met CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh in Imphal on Thursday and discussed the charter of demands put forth by the JAC.The development came amid protests since April 7, demanding justice for the victims.Oinam Tomthin (5) and his five-month-old sister Oinam Yaisana were killed in the explosion that took place at their house on April 7. Three civilians were killed in firing by security forces, following protests against the incident. All the five bodies haven’t been claimed by respective family members so far.The talks with the CM, held in the presence of the state home minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh and other legislators, were inconclusive.

Another round of talks is likely to be held on Friday.JAC adviser Gouro Moirangthem said the charter of demands were discussed but no concrete understanding was reached. He said the demands include a targeted military crackdown against Kuki militants in Manipur, strategic deployment of central forces in hill areas while state forces take charge of securing civilian-populated regions in the valley to restore public confidence.

The JAC also sought proper compensation and support for the family members of the victims, and demanded a thorough enquiry into the conduct of security personnel in the Tronglaobi area.Meanwhile, Khemchand in a Facebook post wrote, “The investigation is progressing with utmost seriousness, and I reaffirmed that justice will be delivered at the earliest.”The suspension of mobile internet/data services in five districts of Manipur, namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching, was extended for another two days on Thursday.
