Jail inmate dies during treatment in Vaishali

Patna: A 39-year-old inmate of Hajipur district jail died late Friday night while receiving treatment at sadar hospital in Vaishali district.The deceased, identified as Ravindra Paswan, a native of Majhiya village under Katara police station area, was in judicial custody after being booked under the Prohibition Act.According to police, Ravindra was arrested on Oct 15 for his involvement in the sale of illicit liquor. “Previously, on Aug 31, he had escaped during the arrest of another person with country-made liquor, leading to the filing of an FIR against him. After his arrest, he was sent to jail. His health suddenly worsened on Friday afternoon, and he was initially treated at the jail hospital,” police said.The prisoner was later shifted to the sadar hospital, where his condition deteriorated further.

Jail superintendent Rupak Kumar confirmed that Ravindra was sent to jail on Oct 15 in an alcohol-related case.“A postmortem was conducted, and the exact cause of death will be known once the medical report is available,” the superintendent said.Ravindra is survived by three daughters and a son. His family rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news.
