Jail warden injured in attack by prisoners at Dharwad Central Jail

Dharwad: A jail warden sustained injuries after being allegedly attacked by a group of prisoners at Dharwad Central Prison on Saturday. Sources said prisoners Mohammad Khasif and Rehan Sharief, accused in the murder case of Harsha, a Bajrang Dal activist in Shivamogga, attacked warden Kiran Ghorpade. “They quarrelled with Ghorpade over the issue of allowing them to come out of their cell,” sources added. Warden Ghorpade has been admitted to a private hospital. A case has been registered against the prisoners at Dharwad Suburban police station. Jail authorities have restricted family visits for the accused following the incident. Family members who had come from Shivamogga returned without meeting Khasif and Sharief after the incident.
