External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar held a second telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi- his first having taken place on February 28, the very day the United States and Israel launched their opening strikes on Iran.

“Had a telecon with Iranian FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi this afternoon," Jaishankar posted on X (formerly Twitter), tagging the Iranian Foreign Minister.

India has now twice reached out to Tehran- once at the outbreak of hostilities and again on Day 6 as the conflict widens- signals that New Delhi is not treating this as a passive watching brief. Two calls in six days points to sustained, purposeful engagement at the highest diplomatic level.

India has significant stakes in the conflict’s trajectory- from the safety of nearly nine million Indians in the Gulf, to energy supplies, to its strategic equities in the Indian Ocean, where an Iranian warship was already sunk in Sri Lankan waters just 24 hours ago.
