Jaishankar To Travel To Russia From Aug 18 to 21, Lavrov Confirms Meeting With EAM In Moscow

Soon after national security adviser Ajit Doval’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on August 7, it is now External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s turn to visit Russia.

He will be visiting Russia from August 18 to 21 and will possibly meet top Russian officials, sources said. In fact, Russia has confirmed that foreign minister Sergey Lavrov will meet Jaishankar on August 21 in Moscow. 

“On August 21, FM Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with FM of India S. Jaishankar in Moscow. The Ministers will discuss key issues on our bilateral agenda, as well as key aspects of cooperation within international frameworks," (sic) the Russian foreign ministry wrote in a post on X.

According to sources, Jaishankar  is likely to travel to Russia from August 18 to 21, where he will have possible meetings with Russian officials and deputy prime minister Dennis Manturov. He is also set to address a business forum on August 20, the sources said. 

His visit comes amid the Trump administration’s 50 percent tariff imposition on India over the purchase of Russian oil. India has, however, been firm in its stance and said it will not sever ties with its most reliable ally in Moscow to foster a friendship with one of the world’s most powerful men in Washington.

Jaishankar last met Lavrov at the foreign ministers’ meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in China’s Tianjin. The two had also met on the sidelines of the 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil before that.
