Dumka: Jamtara cyber police arrested three cyber fraudsters and seized six mobile phones and four SIM cards from their possession following raids in the Karmatanr police station area, police said on Wednesday. The accused were part of a network operating across several states, it added.Cyber DSP Amit Kumar said that, acting on a tip-off received by SP Shambhu Kumar Singh, a special raiding team was constituted under his leadership. The arrested men have been identified as Samim Ansari, 24, Kaif Ansari, 19, and Mustakim Ansari, 38, all residents of different villages in Jamtara district. During interrogation, police found that the accused used a fake cashback scheme through an app called “Ease My Deal”.“They lured people by sending messages promising a cashback of Rs 1,999 and persuaded victims to accept the offer,” he said.“Once the message was accepted, money from the victims’ bank accounts was transferred to accounts controlled by the fraudsters,” he added. The DSP said that the accused allegedly purchased gift cards of various companies and later sold them on commission, making the transactions difficult to trace.
It was further revealed that the gang used APK files to steal victims’ banking credentials. The accused reportedly called people, claiming that their credit cards were about to be blocked or that new cards were being issued. Victims were then persuaded to download an APK file on their phones. After the file was installed, the fraudsters gained access to sensitive information stored on the devices, including banking details, and siphoned money from the victims’ accounts.
