Gaya: Unlike traditional parties, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has devised a new mechanism for the selection of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections.According to the party’s spokesperson, Syed Masihuddin, Kishor has prepared a “novel” blueprint for selecting candidates across all 243 assembly constituencies.
As part of this plan, a massive outreach programme will be launched to involve ordinary party workers in the candidate-selection process.Under the programme, party leaders will visit the constituencies in two phases — from Sept 22 to 26 and Oct 3 to 6.Each constituency-level meeting will be attended by two central observers, the respective district in charge, and district presidents. Party workers from all booths, panchayats, and block-level committees will be invited to participate.
The visiting teams will collect feedback—both oral and written—from grassroots activists.Candidate selection will be based on both suitability and winnability of ticket aspirants. Those seeking tickets have already submitted their claims along with supporting documents. These claims will be verified at the local level, Masihuddin said.Representatives of the party’s youth wing, farmers’ cell, SC, EBC, and minority groups will also be consulted, and their opinions will carry due weight in the final selection, he added. The party is simultaneously working to establish and strengthen its organisational presence across all 8,053 panchayats and 253 urban local bodies in the state.
