Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi informed Donald Trump that she has nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, joining a growing list of world leaders backing the US President for the honor. A White House official told The New York Post that Sanae Takaichi privately “told the President she nominated him and presented him with the papers"- a surprise gesture that reportedly delighted Donald Trump. The announcement came after the two leaders signed a joint declaration marking what they called a “Golden Age of the US-Japan alliance."
Sanae Takaichi praised Donald Trump for his role in brokering recent global ceasefires, particularly the truce between Israel and Hamas.
“In such a short period of time, the world started to enjoy more peace on the ground. And in this context, I highly value your unwavering commitment towards peace and stability," Sanae Takaichi told the US President. Donald Trump, in turn, praised Sanae Takaichi- Japan’s first female prime minister- for her leadership and vision.
What Donald Trump Said About The Nomination?
Donald Trump welcomed the news of his nomination, describing diplomacy as something he deeply enjoys.
“I shouldn’t say it’s a hobby, because it’s so much more serious than a hobby, but it’s something that I’m good at, and it’s something I love to do," he said. He added that he is now interested in working toward peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as between Russia and Ukraine.
Donald Trump has repeatedly said that he helped to end or ease tensions in eight global conflicts this year- among them disputes or fighting involving Azerbaijan and Armenia, Cambodia and Thailand, Egypt and Ethiopia, India and Pakistan, Israel and Hamas, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the DRC and Serbia and Kosovo.
The Nobel Peace Prize this year went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who dedicated her win to Donald Trump for his “unrelenting pursuit of global peace."
