The New York Giants just took another hit, literally. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears after suffering a concussion late in the matchup.
What started as one of Dart’s best games of the season quickly turned worrying when he was taken to the locker room following a brutal hit that left him visibly shaken. The scary moment came late in the third quarter when Dart scrambled out of the pocket near midfield and was tackled hard while attempting to extend the play. The ball popped loose, resulting in a Bears recovery, but attention quickly shifted to Dart, who stayed down for a few moments before being helped to the sideline by trainers.
Giants QB Jaxson Dart ruled out with concussion after hard hit vs. Bears
He was taken to the blue medical tent for evaluation and soon after ruled out with a concussion. At the time of his exit, the rookie QB had been having an impressive outing, completing 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards, rushing for 66 yards, and scoring two touchdowns on the ground. His dual-threat playmaking had the Giants very much in the game before the injury derailed their momentum.Once Dart was sidelined, the Giants had to rely on their backup quarterback to finish the game but things didn’t exactly go smoothly.
The offense, which had been clicking under Dart, struggled to find rhythm in his absence, allowing Chicago to pull ahead late.Head coach Brian Daboll addressed the injury after the game, confirming that Dart would enter the NFL’s concussion protocol. “He took a tough hit, and we just wanted to make sure we did the right thing,” Daboll said. “We’ll evaluate him throughout the week.”With the Giants facing a short turnaround before next week’s matchup, Dart’s recovery timeline becomes crucial.
Under the league’s concussion policy, he must clear several medical steps before returning something that often takes at least a week or more.Dart’s absence would be a major setback for a Giants offense that’s finally shown flashes of life behind his arm and mobility. His ability to extend plays has been one of the few bright spots in a tough season, and fans are hoping the promising young QB can bounce back quickly.
