Jharkhand CM Hemant condemns shoe attack attempt on CJI, calls it cowardly act

Ranchi: Joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others, chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday condemned a suspended lawyer’s attempt to hurl shoes at Chief Justice B R Gavai as a cowardly act and called it an attack on the soul of democracy.Hemant, who is currently in New Delhi, took to X to condemn the incident. He wrote, “The attack on CJI Gavai Ji is an assault on the soul of democracy. The dignity and independence of the judiciary is the cornerstone of any democratic system — raising a hand against it is akin to raising a hand against the nation's Constitution. I strongly condemn this cowardly act.”Hemant, sources in the govt said, reached New Delhi with senior officials on Sunday night to hold legal consultations ahead of a crucial hearing of the Supreme Court on declaring Saranda Forest in West Singhbhum district as a wildlife sanctuary. The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
