Jharkhand Government Secures Approval for Four New Medical Colleges to Enhance Healthcare

Ranchi: The Union govt has approved the Jharkhand govt’s proposal for four medical colleges in Khunti, Jamtara, Dhanbad. and Giridih. While Khunti and Jamtara will have 50 MBBS seats each, the other two will have 100 seats each, the health department announced on Tuesday.Earlier in the day, additional chief secretary (ACS) in the state health department Ajoy Kumar Singh gave a detailed presentation at the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the finance ministry in Delhi.“After the presentation, the Centre approved the establishment of medical colleges in four districts of Jharkhand,” a formal communique from the health department said.The approval was given under the govt of India’s (GOI) ‘scheme for establishment of medical colleges under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode’.“The project will be implemented under the viability gap funding (VGF) sub-scheme-1 and sub-scheme-2 operated by the DEA. The Dhanbad project will be implemented under sub-scheme-1 and the rest under the sub-scheme-2. The GOI will provide 40% capital expenditure (capex) and 25% operational expenditure (opex) support. The govt will contribute 25% to 40% capex and 15% to 25% as opex support,” said an official.“The PPP model will not only improve medical education but also better health services and generate employment opportunities for local youths in the state,” he added.

“The new medical colleges will improve the availability of specialist doctors in rural and semi-urban areas. The reach of medical education will also get a boost and health infrastructure will be strengthened,” said ACS (health) Ajoy Kumar Singh.”
