A man from Jharkhand was arrested for allegedly pushing his wife to death from a moving train and trying to pass it off as an accident, police said. The victim has been identified as Juhi Devi (24).

According to police, Juhi Devi’s body was found near Tori-Chetar station in Latehar district on Thursday.

News agency PTI, citing police, reported that the 24-year-old’s death was not accidental as was initially suspected, but a well-planned murder by her husband, Mahadev Singh.

Following Devi’s death, Singh lodged a report at the Dhurki police station in Garwah, his home district, claiming that his wife had fallen off the train accidently. Therefter, police began an investigation.

However, during probe, the accused broke down and confessed killing her.

The husband admitted to pushing his wife from the running train which led to her death, PTI, citing Randhir Singh, the officer-in-charge of the Chandwa police station, reported.

It was learnt that a family dispute was the reason that led Mahadev to take the extreme step. He was remanded to judicial custody by a court on Friday.

Man Pushes Wife Off Roof, She Dies

In a similar incident in February, a man in Haryana allegedly pushed his wife off the roof of their house, leading to her death. Subsequently, the husband and two others were arrested on murder charges.

The deceased was identified as Ritu. It had come to light that Ritu was killed over a family dispute and her husband tried to pass the incident off as an accident, However, the probe revealed that the woman was pushed off the roof intentionally.

Ritu’s brother had alleged that the husband, along with family members, had thrown her down, causing her death. Thereafter, police registered a case based on his complaint. A case was registered under section 101 (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS.
