amshedpur: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) formally kicked off their Ghatshila byelection efforts on Friday as its candidates filed nomination papers, accompanied by party heavyweights.Chief minister Hemant Soren accompanied JMM candidate Somesh Soren as he filed his papers at the office of Ghatshila subdivisional officer along with state Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh.Addressing the audience mostly in Santali, Hemant said a victory for Somesh would be a fitting tribute to Shibu Soren and Ramdas Soren.“Ghatshila by-election was necessitated due to the death of Ramdas Da. It is a coincidence that Ramdas and Guruji (Shibu) both passed away within a short span of time and breathed their last in New Delhi.
A victory for Somesh will be a tribute to both Ramdas and Guruji whose lives were dedicated to the statehood struggle,” Hemant said, addressing a public rally at Dahigora Circus Ground.Without taking his name, Hemant took a dig at former CM Champai Soren and accused him of stabbing the party in the back. “The bypoll victory will teach a lesson to the forces which betrayed JMM, a political organization which is recognized as Adivasi Asmita party,” he said.
Upping the ante against the BJP, Hemant said their star campaigners, including 12 former and incumbent CMs of various states, will not be able to improve the party’s prospects. “Why 12 CMs? Let there be two dozen. Yet, they will have no impact on the outcome of the poll,” he added.BJP, too, rallied for its candidate. State BJP president Babulal Marandi accompanied party candidate Babulal Soren. Addressing a rally at Moubhandar Tamra Maidan, Babulal said the outcome of the byelection would come as an eye-opener for the state govt, which has failed on every front.“Failed law and order, increasing corruption, joblessness, and loot of minerals have become synonymous with the present govt. People should vote against the govt and defeat the INDIA bloc candidate,” Marandi said.
